Wanting to Retain Older Workers? Take a Lesson from California
According to the article in the AZ Star yesterday, California has a problem and is working at finding solutions. 52% of their managers in the state workforce could decide to leave in the next 5 years, grab their retirement package and head for the beach. This is a big number that would create a huge brain drain and the head of workforce development is trying to keep senior workers on the job. Some techniques include: offering a flexible work schedule, promoting work-life balance and creating a needs assessment survey to find out what workers truly want. Job-sharing, telecommuting, reward and recognition programs all a part of the retention program. This is not only an issue in CA but in almost all of the states nationwide. State offices are recruiting from private industry as well to fill their vacancies. You may be getting a call. Reported by Wiltz of stateline.org.
