Laid-off Americans returning to the Labor Market
After years of sitting on the sidelines, hundreds of thousands of workers who lost their jobs in the 2007-2008 financial crash are finally getting back into the game. The nation’s labor force–people with jobs and those unemployed but looking for work–grew by about 2.4 million over the past 6 months, about as much as the prior 3 years combined. The labor participation rate is now at 63%, up from a 62.4% that was the lowest rate in 39 years. This is a very positive sign and people are more optimistic about job prospects. Reported by D. Lee of LA Times.
