Jobless Claims in U.S. Decline to Lowest Level in Four Decades

Jobless claims dropped by 19,000 to 235,000 in the week ended Nov. 12, the lowest level in four decades, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Economists polled by Bloomberg had predicted 257,000 claims. The four-week average of claims declined by 6,500 to 253,500. Filings for unemployment benefits have stayed below 300,000 for 89 consecutive weeks—the longest streak since 1970 and a level typical for a healthy labor market. Reported in Bloomberg  by P. Laya.
