Hiring by Small Firms Outpacing Rate at Bigger Companies
According to Bloomberg (08/10/13) by writer,Alexandria Baca, employment at companies with fewer than 50 employees is stronger now than prior to the recession, while hiring at larger businesses is not as strong as at small businesses. Businesses with fewer than 50 employees added 82,000 jobs in July and 85,000 in June, according to Automatic Data Processing. These businesses accounted for 42% of employment in July.
Meanwhile, new research by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation shows that both the age and size of a small business makes a difference in hiring. Job creation at companies less than a year old with one to four employees increased 5.4% in 2011, rebounding from four consecutive years of decline.
