Guns At Work in the Mass Shooting Debates
There have been about 353 mass shootings in the U.S. this year, and the recent shootings in Colorado Springs, CO, and San Bernardino, CA, resulted in death or injury to employees. Thus, employers should be reminded of the need to consistently provide a safe working environment for employees. “Bring Your Gun to Work” laws that restrict employers’ ability to prohibit guns from being stored in employees’ private vehicles when parked on the employers’ premises have been passed in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin. Employers in the remaining states should be aware of state and municipality firearm restrictions as part of their efforts to maintain safe work environments. Reported by Alvarez in Lexology.
