Updating Your Employee Handbook
Employers should make sure their company handbooks are current, because laws and regulations continue to evolve. They should revise their handbooks with several hot-button employment law topics in mind. These include expanded protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees, as well as pregnant employees; accommodations for religious practices and dress codes; laws allowing medicinal and recreational marijuana use and the increased use of e-cigarettes; and enhanced protection for “concerted activity” under the National Labor Relations Act.
