There are 11 million unemployed people in the U.S. but 3 million jobs go unfilled every day. What’s up with that?
The old skills gap is still raising its ugly head and it’s time for private employers and public entities to increase their training programs and provide opportunities for employees to shadow the more experienced employees, and to work and/or observe these knowledgeable and skilled employees in action. Baby boomers are retiring by the thousands and it’s time to fill their shoes while closing the knowledge gap. Not all positions can be filled in this manner but many of the 3 million openings can be filled with well-trained and oriented new employees. Companies just need to give people a chance AND a successful training program.
