Philanthropy Spotlight: The Hermitage Cat Shelter

The Hermitage Cat Shelter

Founded in 1965, The Hermitage Cat Shelter is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization supported entirely by donations. The Hermitage has been dedicated to the shelter, protection, and care of homeless cats, especially those that are often not considered adoptable by other organizations. They are both an adoption facility and long-term sanctuary for those felines who are “adoption-challenged,” including felines who are FIV or FeLV-positive, and other types of chronic health issues. All of their kitties roam free within 9,000 sq. ft. of outdoor/indoor living space.

Get Involved!

There are a variety of great ways to engage with The Hermitage Cat Shelter!

Sponsor a cat: Many of us already have kitties in our home, and therefore can’t adopt more—but we still want to help the hundreds of cats who come to The Hermitage for a second chance at a loving, adoptive home. You can help in so many ways by becoming a Hermitage Sponsor. Click here to view their sponsorship options!

Volunteer: One of the best ways to help The Hermitage No-Kill Cat Shelter is through volunteering your time. Volunteer opportunities include: administration; socialization; special events; shelter maintenance; and more. Click here and learn how to VOLUNTEER!

Cat Yoya: Do you like yoga AND kitties? Join The Hermitage for a fun class surrounded by their in-house cats. Click here to review their schedule and class cost!

Community Programs:

Meows for Military –The Hermitage’s Meows for Military is a program for military veteran at the Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System in the Community Living Center. Each Week our outreach coordinator and a feline ambassador visit our proud veterans and provide supportive therapy to help heal their wounds and lift their spirits.

Snuggles for Seniors –For seniors, interacting with a pet can be life altering. Feelings of loneliness or isolation can melt away with a simple stroke and purring response. The physical and mental health benefits of interacting with a furry companion can be many-from reduced blood pressure to elevated serotonin levels. Snuggles for Seniors takes place at multiple retirement homes located in Tucson several times a month.

Children’s Programs Cat Camp –The Hermitage now offers children’s Cat Camp. The program is designed for children ages 6-11 and serves to educate them to properly care for their feline friends. The curriculum includes instruction on feeding, health, first aid and maintenance of their pet.
