Older Women Reshaping the U.S. Job Market

Since the beginning of the December 2007 recession, the percentage of older working women has grown while the percentage of every other gender and age category has contracted or held steady. One in seven women work past age 65, compared with one in 12 in 1992. One in five women will work past age 65 by 2024, according to the Dept. of Labor. The increase in working women ages 55 to 64 over the past 10 years is about evenly divided between college graduates and those with only a high school degree, according to census data maintained by the University of Minnesota.
