Jobless Claims in U.S. Drop to Lowest Level Since May 2007

The number of people applying for unemployment benefits in the week ended April 5 fell by 32,000 to 300,000, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, the lowest level since May 2007 and a sign that the labor market continues to strengthen. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had forecast claims ranging from 310,000 to 330,000. The four-week moving average of new claims fell from 321,000 to 316,250, the lowest level since the end of September. Reported by Bloomberg’s Stilwell.
